Ok, I'm weak. What can I say? I got an iPhone.
This wasn't quite a spur of the moment purchase. My family's Cingular plan expired about three months ago, so it was time to upgrade. I was thinking of getting the Blackberry Curve, and I tried it out but I couldn't really type on those tiny keys and the screen seemed blurry to me.
So I get the iPhone purely on faith in the gods of Cupertino--figuring I can try it out for 2 weeks and return it if I don't like it.
Well, I like it!
There are a lot of little quibbles to complain about--as you can tell from the many reviews on the web. Despite all the hype, it won't mow my lawn or bring my breakfast to bed.
But it is truly an exquisite mix of hardware and software. The big honchos in Redmond are probably whipping up their working bees into a frenzy trying to come up with something a tenth as jazzy (ahhhh....we need a follow-up to the brown Zune--the Phune!).
The fact that I now can pretty much get and answer my email in a big readable screen anywhere I want; that I can access the web and maybe even post on this blog without having to strain my eyes; and that it's actually a pretty good phone seems all besides the point. Most of all, it is an amazingly cool piece of technology--and I can't wait to see the iPhone a couple of generations down the line. If the iPod history is any indication, there are wonders to behold ahead of us.

"Despite all the hype, it won't mow my lawn or bring my breakfast to bed."
Mexicans can do that for very little money!

Oh...the ironies in life.

"After committing $2,000 to SBC/Apple, Dr. Borjas regrets that the marginal additional cost of Mexican labour is beyond the frontier of his curve utility curve."
